The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) confirmed the October 2026 social grant payment dates, spreading payments across three days to keep ATM queues manageable. If you, or someone in your household, depends on a social grant, here are the dates that matter.
SASSA is also warning beneficiaries about a fake social media message doing the rounds. Before anything else: that message promising an extra R500 for chronic patients over 70 is not real.
SASSA grant dates: October 2026
The October payments are scheduled as follows:
- Older Persons Grant: Friday, 2 October 2026
- Disability Grant: Monday, 5 October 2026
- Children’s Grant (Child Support Grant): Tuesday, 6 October 2026
The staggered approach is deliberate. Spreading payments across different days reduces long queues and ATM congestion, which means fewer people standing in lines waiting for the same machines to free up.
You do not need to rush to withdraw on your specific payment day. SASSA confirms your money stays safely in your account until you need it, so there is no urgency to be first in the queue at 7am.
If you run into any trouble accessing your grant on these dates, the agency says to visit your nearest SASSA office for assistance.

The latest SASSA scam
SASSA is flagging a specific fake message circulating on social media. The message claims beneficiaries who are chronic patients over 70 will receive an extra R500. That is false.
The agency has confirmed the claim is a scam. Share that information with the WhatsApp groups where these things travel fastest, because the people most likely to believe it are often the most financially vulnerable.
This is not a new playbook. Grant payment periods are predictable, which makes them predictable targets. Scammers know when money is moving, and they move with it.
SASSA schedule
The 2026/2027 payment schedule was officially approved by National Treasury on 20 March 2026. According to SASSA’s statement, grant values increased from April 2026, with the Older Persons Grant, Disability Grant and Care Dependency Grant rising to R2 400.
The Foster Child Grant increased to R1 290, and the Child Support Grant along with the Grant-in-Aid increased to R580.
SASSA’s confirmed position is that payments will continue to be made as early as possible each month, staggered over three days to reduce congestion.
