The latest South Africa weather warnings have been issued for Monday, 21 July. While there are no official impact alerts in place, don’t get too comfortable.
Cold fronts, isolated showers, and even light snow in parts of the Eastern Cape could still mess with your plans. Especially if you’re in the south or heading to higher ground.
Here’s what to know before you leave the house.
South Africa weather warnings
According to the South African Weather Service, there are no severe weather warnings, fire danger warnings, or advisories for Monday.
But that doesn’t mean it’s smooth sailing everywhere.
Cold, wet, and windy in the south
In the Western and Eastern Cape, brace for clouds, rain, and dropping temps.
Resident can expect:
- Light rain in Cape Town early morning.
- Showers spreading to George, Gqeberha, and East London by afternoon.
- Scattered thundershowers inland.
- Light snow over the north-eastern high ground in the Eastern Cape by evening.
Strong coastal winds are also expected, especially in the afternoon and evening. Gqeberha and East London could see wind speeds picking up to “fresh to strong” levels.
Gauteng and inland: Cold and cloudy
If you’re in Joburg, Pretoria, or Bloem, expect partly cloudy and cold to cool conditions.
It’s still dry, but definitely not warm. Minimums dip to 5°C in Johannesburg, with a high of just 18°C.
Nothing extreme, just proper July weather.
Northern provinces staying dry (mostly)
Mpumalanga and Limpopo will be fine to partly cloudy, with drizzle possible in the far northeast.
Lowveld areas will be warmer, peaking at around 22°C in Mbombela, SAWS warns.
But the rest of the region stays in the cool-to-mild range, with occasional cloud cover creeping in later.
KwaZulu-Natal could see a late switch
Durban and Pietermaritzburg will be warm and clear early in the day, but by evening, expect isolated thundershowers in the south and central interior.
KZN’s coastal areas will also shift from north-westerly winds to a fresh south-westerly by late afternoon.
So don’t be surprised if that beach walk gets cut short by a chill wind.

The UVB sunburn index is very high in KZN and moderate in Gauteng.
So yes, even in winter, the sun will cook you if you’re not careful.
