Vodacom World is heading to Comic Con Africa 2026 with an augmented reality (AR) game and a prize pool worth R150 000. The activation runs across all four days of the event, from 24 to 27 September, at the Johannesburg Expo Centre at Nasrec.
For anyone already planning to attend the convention, there is now a financial reason to find Hall 5, Stand E522.
What the AR game actually involves
The centrepiece of the Vodacom World activation is World of Collectables, an AR game where visitors hunt for virtual collectables and compete for a share of the R150 000 prize pool. Think of it as a scavenger hunt, except the items are digital and the stakes are a gaming console.
To qualify for the game, visitors need to spend R599. That spend unlocks access to compete for prizes that include a Sony PlayStation 5 Digital Edition, a Nintendo Switch 2, a Xiaomi Electric Scooter, an Apple MacBook Neo, smartphones, wearables and other connected devices.
There is a separate incentive for existing Vodacom customers. According to Vodacom, eligible customers who upgrade their contract at the event will be entered into a lucky draw to win a Sony PlayStation 5.

Why Comic Con Africa makes sense as a venue
Comic Con Africa draws communities with an interest in technology, gaming and creativity, which gives Vodacom World a ready audience that does not need convincing that AR gaming is worth five minutes of their time.
The convention is a four-day event packed with cosplay, characters and pop-culture entertainment. Vodacom World’s pitch is that its activation fits into that mix rather than sitting alongside it as a branded interruption.
Whether visitors come for the cosplay or the collectables, the R150 000 on the table is the kind of number that tends to redirect foot traffic.
