Johannesburg-based tattoo studio Ikigai Studio will set up at Hall 4, stand TA02 at Comic Con Africa 2026, running from 24 to 27 September at the Johannesburg Expo Centre in Nasrec. The studio is bringing fandom-inspired tattoos and a Pokémon gacha machine to the convention floor.
That anime character you’ve been saying you’ll get tattooed one day? Or the gaming reference you’ve had saved on your phone for three years? (Don’t dare me to get a Helldivers2 tattoo, I absolutely will….)
Ikigai has you covered. The studio is bringing fandom-inspired tattoos to Comic Con, with smaller pieces for those ready to commit and plenty of options for the curious.

Bookings will be limited, with walk-in spots kept available. Fans with bigger ambitions can also enquire about appointments at Ikigai’s Northcliff studio during the event.

Fandom ink and how the bookings work
Ikigai will offer a selection of pre-designed flash tattoos drawn from various fandoms. Fans are also welcome to bring their own references, whether that’s a character, a gaming symbol or a concept they’ve been sitting on.
The studio’s preference at the convention is for smaller designs. Comic Con is a busy environment and time per appointment is limited. Anyone dreaming of a larger, more detailed piece can start that conversation at the booth and continue it at the Northcliff studio.
Tattoo artist Heath will be on-site throughout the event. “People get tattoos because something means something to them, and fandom is a huge part of that,” Heath said.
“Whether it’s a character you grew up with, a game you love, or a reference that only another fan will recognise, it’s cool to turn that into something you can carry with you.”
For those planning to get tattooed, the studio recommends eating a proper meal beforehand and staying hydrated. Arrive sober and wear clothing that allows easy access to the area being tattooed.
About that Pokémon gacha machine
The booth will feature a traditional Japanese gacha machine for a “get what you get” tattoo experience. Fans spin for a surprise design from the first and second generation of Pokémon.
The studio describes it as something like opening a booster pack, except the prize goes on your skin. For visitors who aren’t ready to commit to permanent ink, Ikigai has other options.
The studio will be selling exclusive Comic Con T-shirts featuring a design created specifically for the event. Handmade fandom-inspired scrolls, stickers and temporary tattoos will also be available at the stand.
Marce Heath, founder and brand and marketing lead at Ikigai Studio, said the event fits the studio’s identity. “Comic Con is one of those spaces where people can really be themselves, whether that’s through their tattoos, their cosplay, their collections or just the things they’re passionate about,” Heath said.
“We wanted to bring something to the event that feels like us. It’s creative, a little playful, and we are genuinely excited to be part of the fandom.”
