omic Con Africa 2024 is set to take place from 26 to 29 September at the Johannesburg Expo Centre (Nasrec). The event will bring together fans of comics, cosplay, and gaming for four days of pop culture celebration.
This year’s convention will feature several prominent international comic artists. Dan Parent, known for his work on Archie comics, Yanick Paquette, a best-selling artist with contributions to Marvel and DC Comics, and South African-born Mark Raats, recognized for his posters for Indiana Jones and Star Wars, are among the highlights. Humberto Ramos, with a career that includes work on Spider-Man and X-Men, will also attend.

Local artists
Local artists will also be well-represented. Chris Valentine, who has collaborated with Lucasfilm, Warner Brothers, and Disney, Karl Mostert, known for his work on “Deceased: Unkillables” and “Dark Knights: Metal,” and Tasia M.S, who has experience with DC Comics and HBO, will showcase their talents.
A significant part of Comic Con Africa is its focus on cosplay. The event will host the Comic Con Africa Championships of Cosplay, where top South African cosplayers will compete for a chance to represent the country in the world finals in Chicago. Additionally, there will be daily casual cosplay competitions open to all attendees, with registration available on-site.
International cosplayers such as CutiePieSensei from the USA, Yuji Koi from Switzerland, and Har_fie from the UK will be present, bringing their global acclaim and expertise to the event.
Comic Con Africa 2024 will also include panels with industry experts, gaming specials, eSports tournaments, and a marketplace for pop culture merchandise. The event aims to cater to both dedicated fans and those new to the world of comics and cosplay.
