The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) confirmed the social grant payment dates for September 2026, with all three disbursements falling in the first week of the month.
Payments will be staggered across three consecutive days, starting on Wednesday, 2 September 2026.

The SASSA schedule follows the agency’s standard early-month approach, with no public holidays or weekend clashes pushing dates out this time.
Who gets paid, and when
If you’re one of the millions of beneficiaries waiting on that monthly deposit, here is exactly when to expect it.
- The Older Persons Grant lands first, on Wednesday, 2 September 2026.
- Beneficiaries receiving the Disability Grant can expect payment on Thursday, 3 September 2026.
- The Children’s Grants, which include the Child Support Grant and the Foster Child Grant, follow on Friday, 4 September 2026.
For grants that did not process on their scheduled dates, a deferred payment window falls on Monday, 7 September 2026. This catch-up date exists for payments that failed to clear during the main three-day cycle and were reviewed and resolved.
The staggered model is not new and it is not popular. SASSA applies it to ease pressure on the National Payment System, ATMs, and retail pay points. The agency has confirmed this as a standing operational principle across the financial year.
What the grants are worth right now
September payments will reflect the increased grant amounts that came into effect from April 2026, following the budget announcement by the Minister of Finance.
The Older Persons Grant, Disability Grant, and Care Dependency Grant all sit at R2 400, up R80 from before. The War Veterans Grant rose by the same amount to R2 420.
The Foster Child Grant increased by R40 to R1 290, and both the Child Support Grant and the Grant-in-Aid rose R20 to R580.
Those amounts have been in place since April. September is not a new increase month, just the continued rollout of grants at the current rates.
What you need to know
SASSA has consistently urged beneficiaries to keep their personal details updated on the system. If your contact details or banking information have changed and you have not notified the agency, your payment could be affected.
The agency has also warned beneficiaries to rely only on official SASSA channels for payment date information. Fake posts about grant dates circulate regularly in WhatsApp groups and on social media, and none of them are from SASSA.
