Huawei held its global product launch in Munich, Germany, unveiling a lineup that spans smartwatches, tablets, smartphones and audio devices.
For South Africans, the most immediately relevant news is the Huawei Watch GT 7 Series, which went on sale via the Huawei Online Store this week and hits all retailers from 7 September.
The Chase The Wild event was large and the product list even longer. Here’s what actually matters.
The WATCH GT 7 Series: what’s new
The Huawei Watch GT 7 comes in 46 mm and 41 mm editions. The GT 7 Pro steps things up with a nano-tech ceramic bezel and titanium alloy middle frame. Both models feature the new EasyCross strap.
According to Huawei, the series introduces wrist-based turn detection and G-Force detection, which the company describes as industry firsts. Cycling features include route planning for climbing, slope alerts and sharp-turn warnings.
AI-powered cycling insights are also coming, via an over-the-air update after launch.

On the health side, the upgraded Health Insights feature adds Physical Readiness scoring and smart health analysis. Huawei says these are designed to deliver clearer, more actionable wellness recommendations.
The rest of the Munich lineup
The Huawei Watch 6 Series returns to Europe after a one-year absence. According to Huawei, it supports independent calling, navigation and payment functions, and includes AI-driven workout analysis alongside updated health management features.
Huawei also launched the Watch D3, positioned as a next-generation wrist-based blood pressure monitor. It supports pre- and post-exercise blood pressure measurement and includes smart measurement reminders. South African availability has not yet been confirmed, with Huawei saying local launch details are still to be announced.
The Huawei MatePad Pro 12-inch made its appearance as the flagship tablet. It measures 4.7 mm thick, weighs 454 grams and features a 12-inch flexible OLED PaperMatte Display. Huawei says it includes artificial intelligence (AI) speech-to-text conversion, AI handwriting enhancement and stylus air gestures. A local launch for the MatePad Pro has not been confirmed.
Audio, smartphones and a painting contest
The Huawei FreeBuds Neo Series was announced as a new audio option, described by Huawei as engineered for modern lifestyles with a fresh design and immersive sound. The Huawei nova 16s series also debuted, with a stated focus on portrait photography.
Huawei used the Munich event to open its annual GoPaint contest globally. This year’s edition adds an Easy Creation category, aimed at encouraging broader participation.
For South African consumers, the immediate action item is the Watch GT 7 Series. Everything else from Munich is a question of when, and in some cases, whether.
