Comic Con Africa announced Christopher Judge is coming to Comic Con Africa. Judge is the voice of Kratos and – more importantly to at least one extremely excited journalist (hi, it me) – the man behind Stargate SG-1’s Teal’c.
I have a confession to make before we get into the actual news.
I am more excited about this than the average journalist should be. There are professional reasons to be excited about Christopher Judge coming to Comic Con. BUT. I have a Stargate tattoo, so my attempts to approach this announcement like a professional have not been going particularly well.
So when Comic Con Africa announced that the man who played Teal’c in Stargate SG-1 is coming to Johannesburg, my first response was not a dignified editorial “Oh, that’s excellent news.”
It was me forwarding the email to my player two with the subject line: “OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG.”

I emailed the Comic Con organisers. I begged for an interview opportunity. I am also considering grovelling.
So this article is going to contain the regular information about an exciting Comic Con Africa guest, but I am warning you now: there will be no pretending that I am emotionally objective about this particular announcement.
Christopher Judge. In South Africa
Judge is, of course, the voice and performance-capture actor behind Kratos in God of War and God of War Ragnarök, a performance that earned him the Best Performance award at The Game Awards in 2022.
If you’ve played either game, you know the voice. Judge has made Kratos one of gaming’s most recognisable characters all over again.
But before he was telling Atreus to keep his emotions under control while killing gods, he was doing something considerably more important to my formative years.
He was Teal’c.

And if you know, you know.
If you don’t know, please go watch Stargate SG-1 immediately. I have nothing else to say to you until you have rectified this.
Indeed.
Judge played Jaffa warrior Teal’c throughout Stargate SG-1, joining the show’s central team after turning against the Goa’uld.
Teal’c was stoic, intimidating and occasionally hilarious in that completely unintentional way that comes from having absolutely no patience for the weirdness of humans. I relate. Hard.
He was also responsible for one of television’s greatest deadpan running jokes.
Indeed.
And yes, I still say it.

I have said it to people who have absolutely no idea why I am suddenly speaking like a very serious alien warrior.
I have also, to the continued confusion of innocent bystanders, told the “and his nose drips” joke.
This is my life now.
The Stargate tattoo probably should have been everyone’s warning.
From Teal’c to Kratos
What makes Judge’s career particularly impressive is that Teal’c and Kratos are wildly different characters, despite both requiring a fairly substantial commitment to the art of saying very little while looking like they could destroy you.
Judge’s performance as Kratos has become one of the defining elements of the modern God of War games.
The 2018 reboot gave the character a more restrained and emotionally complex dimension, particularly through his relationship with his son, Atreus. God of War Ragnarök continued that evolution while giving Judge even more room to explore the character.
The result was a performance good enough to win Best Performance at The Game Awards in 2022.
And now that performance is coming to Comic Con Africa.
In Johannesburg.
Where I live.
This is frankly irresponsible.

The TL;DR
Comic Con Africa takes place from 24 to 27 September 2026 at the Johannesburg Expo Centre.
Christopher Judge will be there.
Teal’c will be in Johannesburg.
There is a Stargate tattoo permanently attached to my body because of how much the Stargat universe means to me.
All of which brings me back to the rather important fact that Teal’c is coming to Johannesburg.
Indeed.
