Government sets 4.7% salary increase for public servants

The Minister for Public Service and Administration, Noxolo Kiviet, has announced the government’s decision on wage increments for non-SMS (Senior Management Service) Members on levels 1-12 in the public service for the fiscal year 2024. Effective from April 1, 2024, the salary increment will be 4.7%.

The minister said that the decision is made considering prevailing economic conditions and fiscal constraints. she said it aims to strike a balance between addressing the needs of public servants and maintaining efficient service delivery.

“Non-SMS members, occupying positions below the senior management level, are integral to the daily operations of public institutions,” Minister Kiviet said

Essential role

She urged all public servants to continue delivering high-quality services, emphasizing their essential role in effective public service delivery.

“As part of ongoing efforts to professionalize the public service, the government remains committed to supporting the professional development of public servants through investment in training and capacity-building initiatives,” she added.
