South Africa’s weather warnings for Tuesday, 22 July, includes a mix of icy conditions, thunderstorms, and even snowfall in the Eastern Cape’s high ground.

A cold front is pushing through, with a yellow level 1 weather warning for severe thunderstorms in the north-eastern Eastern Cape.

The chill is not over yet, folks…. Here are Tuesday’s weather warnings.

Cold front and snow warning

The Eastern Cape’s mountainous regions are expecting snowfall on the north-eastern high ground, while the Wild Coast and adjacent interior will face widespread showers and thundershowers.

Provincial weather warnings

Here’s what to expect from the weather on Tuesday. By province.

Gauteng

Cloudy and cool to cold, with minimums as low as 7°C in Vereeniging and highs around 19°C in Pretoria.

KwaZulu-Natal

Cloudy with scattered showers and rain. Temperatures range from 9°C in Pietermaritzburg to 21°C in Durban.

Expect very cold conditions in the extreme south-west.

Eastern Cape

  • Western half: Cloudy and cold, clearing slightly by evening.
  • Eastern half: Snow in the north-eastern mountains, with thunderstorms and rain along the Wild Coast.

Northern Cape and Free State

Both regions will see partly cloudy skies with isolated showers and thundershowers, especially in southern and eastern areas.

Bloemfontein tops at 18°C.

Western Cape

Mostly fine with morning fog patches inland, while Cape Town will be sunny with a maximum of 19°C.

UV index

The UVB index is low to moderate across most regions. KZN and coastal areas remain higher, so sunscreen is still smart.
