Rand Water has notified the City of Ekurhuleni of planned maintenance kicking off at 05:00 on Tuesday, 15 July until 07:00 on Friday, 18 July 2025.

It’s unfortunately not a quick fix. Officials have warned that it may take up to eight full days after maintenance wraps up for the water supply to return to normal.

While some areas might get their water back sooner, high-lying areas and neighbourhoods that rely on pumping systems could be left dry for a while. That includes parts of Thembisa and upper Germiston.

Residents are being asked to stock up in advance and use water sparingly during the shutdown.

The city says water tankers will be dispatched to affected areas that experience total outages. Schedules and routes for the tankers will be shared via the city’s official platforms.

What to do?

Be prepared:

  • Fill up containers,
  • Plan ahead,
  • Tell your neighbours.

This might be one of the longer maintenance periods of the year, and nobody wants to be the person without coffee, a toilet flush, or clean clothes on day five.
