Google’s Summer of Code (GSoC) is back for 2025, offering a chance to dive into open-source coding.
Since 2005, over 21,000 contributors have joined, guided by more than 20,000 mentors from 1,000+ organizations.
What’s GSoC all about?
GSoC is a global, online program that connects new contributors with open-source projects.
Participants work on a 12+ week coding project, learning from experienced mentors. It’s a hands-on way to build coding skills and understand how open-source communities work.
The date for organisations to apply to mentor was 11 February. The accepted organisations will be announced on 27 February.

GSoC key dates
- Application period: 24 March to 8 April 2025.
- Community bonding period: 8 May to 1 June 2025.
- Coding period: 2 June to 1 September 2025.
