South Africans, it’s time to check your pockets, wallets, and forgotten drawers! Several Lotto and Powerball jackpots are up for grabs.

The National Lottery is urging players to claim their winnings, with over R4.6 million in unclaimed prizes waiting for lucky ticket holders.

Could you be one of them?

Lotto and Powerball jackpots

Three lucky winners have already stepped forward to claim a whopping combined total of R99,308,656.40 between them!

But three more draws – one Powerball jackpot and two Daily Lotto jackpots – are still unclaimed.

Here’s what you need to know.

Powerball jackpots

A recent PowerBall jackpot of R77 million – R77,428,794.30 to be exact – was scooped up by a lucky winner on 26 November.

The anonymous winner said: “I really can’t believe that I won a life-changing and once-in-a-lifetime jackpot.”

He wants to open his own business, secure his children’s education and invest “some of the money.”

“I’m also going to need more sessions with financial advisors to help me navigate winning such a large amount. Thank you Ithube, Phanda, Pusha, Play. And you can also win big!”

R2.7m and R19m Lotto jackpots

Two Lotto jackpots were also claimed:

  • R2,797,921.80
  • R19,081,940.30

Unclaimed Lotto and Powerball jackpots

Among the unclaimed prizes is a massive R3,448,147 PowerBall Plus jackpot, purchased in Louis Trichardt, Limpopo, on January 19, 2024.

The winner has until January 19, 2025, to claim their life-changing fortune.

The Daily Lotto also has two significant unclaimed prizes:

  • R640,100 from a ticket bought in Carletonville, Gauteng, on January 5, 2024.
  • R514,232 from a ticket purchased in Brakpan, Gauteng, on January 29, 2024.

If these dates or locations sound familiar, it might be worth digging out your old tickets.

You have a full year from the draw date to claim your winnings—don’t let these life-changing sums slip away.

How to check and claim your winnings

Think you might be a winner? Here’s what you need to do:

  • Check your old tickets against the draw dates and numbers.
  • If you’ve won, visit the nearest National Lottery office or authorized retailer to claim your prize.

But don’t wait too long—after the 365-day claim window, unclaimed prizes are forfeited and redirected to social development initiatives.

For many, the chance to win big provides a glimmer of hope in challenging times.

But these unclaimed fortunes are a stark reminder that opportunities can slip away if not acted on.

Whether it’s a few thousand rand or a multi-million-rand jackpot, every prize has the potential to transform lives.
