Do you want high-octane action? Check. What about horror? Check. Into RPGs? Also, check. There was something for everyone.

And if you missed the showcase, don’t worry! I’ve got you covered. Settle in, please, I didn’t write this 1200-word article for nothing…

Now, let’s break it down.

State of Play highlight: Days Gone Remastered

Bend Studio is bringing Days Gone Remastered to PS5 on 25 April 2025. The remaster boasts improved graphics, Tempest 3D Audio, and new DualSense features.

It also includes Horde Assault mode, a brutal Permadeath mode, and other surprises. Players who already own the PS4 or PC versions can upgrade for just $10 (SA pricing TBC).

Borderlands 4: Chaos Returns

Gearbox officially unveiled Borderlands 4, set to launch on 23 September 2025, for PS5.

The trailer showcased new Action Skills, movement abilities, and chaotic gunfights on the planet Kairos.

A deep dive into gameplay is coming later this spring in a special State of Play showcase.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater

Naked Snake is coming to PS5 on 28 August, folks! To get everyone hyped up, Konami shared a new trailer for the upcoming remake at the State of Play 2025.

The trailer includes the first in-game look at the Cobra Unit.

Watch the trailer to the end… Hint: Snake vs Monkey.

Monster Hunter Wilds

Capcom’s Monster Hunter Wilds will be released this month still – February 28th! And just one week after that, Event Quests will be available too.

Sony says Monster Hunter Wilds is “full of surprises, excitement, and ecosystems that serve as the stage for unpredictable events.”

It has that traditional RPG vibe to it, but it wasn’t even planned. Director Yuya Tokuda “it was a natural outcome of our other decisions that hopefully make sense.

It’s also been confirmed: “Monster Hunter Wilds will be PS5 Pro enhanced via a day-one patch, further enhancing immersion with ray tracing”.

Onimusha announcements

Not one, but two announcements were made at Sony’s PlayStation State of Play 2025. The new gameplay trailer for Onimusha: Way of the Sword was revealed.

And the second announcement: iconic Japanese samurai movie star Toshiro Mifune will be the face of the protagonist, Miyamoto Musashi.

Mifune, born on 1 April 1920, was one of the greatest actors of his time. He often portrayed samurai or rōnin, easily bringing “coarse and gruff” characters alive.

He was best known for the films Rashomon (1950), Seven Samurai (1954), Throne of Blood (1957), The Hidden Fortress (1958), and Yojimbo (1961).

Mifune passed away on 24 December 1997, and the cause of death was attributed to organ failure. He was added to the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2016.

Lies of P: Overture

Another definite highlight was Lies of P: Overture. In this prequel to the 2023 RPG, you are transported to the city of Krat.

Way back when it was still majestic. Before the collapse. On the brink of the Puppet Frenzy massacre, you follow a mysterious guide to uncover untold stories and chilling secrets.

Make your way through Krat and its surroundings, uncover hidden secrets, and face epic battles that shape the past (and future!) of Lies of P.

Directive 8020‘s State of Play trailer reveal

I’ve been waiting for this one, and the wait continues…

As per the PlayStation State of Play 2025, Supermassive Games slated Directive 8020’s release for 2 October.

In this adventure, you get to follow the brave astronauts of the Cassiopeia as they embark on a deadly mission to save humanity.

Danger lurks around every corner and every choice could be their last.

Hell Is Us

Not gonna lie, this one looks promising.

The gameplay trailer was released at the PlayStation State of Play, featuring some of the characters and combat mechanics.

But you’ll have to wait a while. This action-adventure is only coming to PS5 on 4 September.

Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii

Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio’s new action-adventure will be launching in March. And according to Sony, the studio has a nice surprise for you:

A PS5 demo of Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii will be on available 14 February.

That’s tomorrow!

It’s the perfect opportunity for newcomers to experience this spin-off featuring fan-favourite character Goro Majima.

Five Nights at Freddy’s: Secret of the Mimic

Hey, horror fans, this one’s for you. (Hi, it’s me, I’m horror fans). Steel Wool Games will be bringing Five Nights at Freddy’s to a PS5 and PS VR2 near you on 13 June 2025.

Secret of the Mimic is an all-new adventure, and the gameplay showcased at the PlayStation State of Play 2025 hinted at some of the objectives.

And of course, out there be terrors, too. So be warned.

MindsEye: A thrilling sci-fi adventure

First time hearing of this one but now I’m looking forward to it.

Set in the futuristic city of Redrock, MindsEye is a story-driven, single-player thriller exploring artificial intelligence, corporate greed, and human survival.

Join Jacob Diaz on his journey to find answers to his past. Two trailers were showcased at the PlayStation State of Play 2025, teasing some of the story and the shenanigans.

But you’ll have to wait a bit before diving into the fictional near-future American city of Redrock. MindsEye will only launch later this year, on PS5.

Exact date still TBC.

Dreams of Another

Dreams of Another is the newest addition to the PixelJunk series, and it will be coming to PS5 and PS VR2 later this year.

The philosophical theme?

“There is no creation without destruction”.

But instead of destroying objects by shooting, your shots materialise and rebuild the world. It’s definitely unique…

Sony says, “this unconventional mechanic offers a gameplay experience that challenges the norms of the genre and invites players into a whole new dimension”.

Darwin’s Paradox!

I couldn’t resist adding this one to the list… This puzzle platformer is coming to PS5 and features Darwin, an octopus snatched from the sea.

He somehow finds his way into a mysterious food factory…

Sony says: “Darwin has all of the evolutionary features of an octopus including the ability to climb almost any surface, camouflage himself, and also the skill to shoot ink to evade his enemies.”

Beyond that, details are still scarce, but expect more news later this year.

This PlayStation State of Play 2025 proved that Sony has an incredible year ahead for gamers. What was your favourite reveal?
